Taking Back the Rainbow

The LGBTQ community has used the rainbow to symbolize their diversity and “spectrum of human sexuality and gender.”

In part 2 of this series, I mentioned how the devil likes to pervert the things of God. He makes the good things of God evil, and what God deems evil, good. He didn’t just do this with pride which God hates, but he also perverted God’s covenant promise and faithfulness to his people.

Genesis chapter 9 talks about God’s covenant with Noah. God sent a flood over all of creation to wash away the sinful nature of humanity and restore its goodness. He preserved only Noah, his family, and two of every animal and creature on the earth. After the flood was over and all the water receded, God made Noah a promise.

“I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you and with every living creature that was with you—the birds, the livestock, and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you—every living creature on earth. I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be destroyed by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.” Genesis 9:8-11 NIV

A covenant is a pledge, an alliance, or a promise. After making this promise to Noah, he confirmed it with a symbol as a reminder.

“And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.” So God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth.” Genesis 9:12-17 NIV

The rainbow represents God’s promise to all of creation that he will never again destroy the earth with a flood. The rainbow is a sign of God’s faithfulness and mercy. The very clouds and rain that He sent to destroy the earth, he then used to create artistry in the skies as a symbol of His love for us. God even compares his covenant of compassion and peace in Isaiah to Noah’s covenant, confirming that his promise is a sure thing.

“To me this is like the days of Noah, when I swore that the waters of Noah would never again cover the earth. So now I have sworn not to be angry with you, never to rebuke you again. Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you. Isaiah 54:9-10 NIV

The rainbow is so beautiful to God that He even compares it to the radiance of His glory.

“Like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. When I saw it, I fell facedown, and I heard the voice of one speaking.” Ezekiel 1:28 NIV

“And the one who sat there had the appearance of Jasper and Ruby. A rainbow that shone like an emerald encircled the throne.” Revelation 4:3 NIV

According to these scriptures, the beauty of the rainbow is meant to signify promise, faithfulness, mercy, hope, protection, and God’s glory. Its original intent was never to be used to glorify the sinful nature of His children. It’s quite the opposite. It intends to say I am still your God and want to be in relationship with you despite your sin. God’s covenant is for all humanity, all His children. It includes everyone, no matter what they’ve done. It’s His sign of forgiveness and wanting to get things back on track.

Therefore, to turn away from what God offers as His loving grace and instead embrace the desire of your flesh is a slap in the face to God. Why would we want to take less than God’s love and kindness? Why would we want to twist this image into what we’ve deemed as a spectrum of human sexuality and gender? There is no spectrum to sexuality and gender in the eyes of God. There is a man, and there is a woman, period.

Often people think because Christians speak against homosexuality that, we are homophobic or hateful. Christians are usually deemed hateful because we speak in contradiction of one living against God’s true intent. We are not against you; we are against the devil’s agenda. We want to see God’s will be done on earth as in heaven. As per my last post, hate is the devil’s biggest distraction. If the enemy can get everyone to focus on hate, we overlook sin, which is the bigger problem.

This is not about hate at all. It is about bringing God’s world back in order and out of the hands of the enemy. It is about getting his children out of darkness and into the light. It is about rectifying what the enemy disrupted from the beginning of time.

Unfortunately, many of us don’t like to hear anyone speak against what they desire to do with their body and life. However, the Bible says your life and body are not your own.

“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.” Romans 12:1-2 ESV

“I know Lord, that our lives are not our own. We are not able to plan our own course.” Jeremiah 10:23 NLT

My goal here is to bring the focus back to God. To bring glory back to the Kingdom of heaven and out of the hands of the kingdom of darkness. I want to open the eyes of the spiritually blind so they can see satan is using them to accomplish his agenda on the earth.

It is not about being able to do what we please; it’s about doing what is needed to please our God. I want to get God’s people and His rainbow back in right standing with Him and His word.

Prayer: Father, have mercy on your people. I pray that the eyes of their understanding have been opened. When people see a rainbow, I pray they remember your covenant, faithfulness, and love, not their flesh’s desires. I pray that your people return to you and do what is holy and righteous in your sight. May your presence and your spirit be with us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Yours Truly Moe
